City of Memphis Crime Update: January - December 2011
Throughout 2011, major violent crime in Memphis, which includes Murder, Forcible Rape, Aggravated Assault, and Robbery, decreased -23.8 percent when compared to the same time period in 2006, when Operation: Safe Community began. Major property crime in the city also declined over the past five years, down -26.8 percent when compared to 2006. Motor Vehicle Theft saw the sharpest decline from 2006 to 2011 with a -49.4 percent reduction.
Shelby County Crime Update: January - December 2011
Throughout 2011, major violent crime in Shelby County was down -22.8 percent, including a drop in Robbery by -42.1 percent and a decrease in Aggravated Assault by -11 percent, when compared to the same time period in 2006, the year Operation: Safe Community began. Major property crime in Shelby County decreased by -25.5 percent, with a -48.8 percent decline in Motor Vehicle Theft and a -21.9 percent drop in Burglary from 2006 to 2011.
