Mayor's Innovation Delivery Team to funnel grant for inner-city revival:
The city of Memphis now has a team to administer its nearly $5 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's private charitable foundation. Memphis Mayor A C Wharton and his staff assembled an "Innovation Delivery Team" to carry out the grant's mission of reviving key portions of the inner city and reducing handgun violence. The team will be housed outside City Hall in an office on the fourth floor of EmergeMemphis, a business incubator that supports start-up companies. "Mayor Wharton has refocused efforts on the core city and that includes addressing neighborhood improvements as well as helping people," said Dexter Muller, senior vice president for community development at the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce.
