Michael Heisley

Michael Heisley is a successful businessman and majority owner of the Memphis Grizzlies. In 2001, he orchestrated the move of the Grizzlies from Vancouver to Memphis. During A Conversation With ... on June 22, 2011, topics ranged from addressing (and putting an end to) trade rumors about Rudy Gay to how the team earned their spot in the 2011 conference championships. Above all, though, Heisley reminded Memphians to have pride in the city and the team. “Lionel Hollins said something that I never will forget,” Heisley said. “In Memphis, this year the Memphis Grizzlies became our Memphis Grizzlies.” Below are highlights from A Conversation With ... Michael Heisley.

Duncan Williams

On December 7, 2010, a conversation was held with Duncan Williams, president of Duncan-Williams Inc. Mr. Williams has been with the firm since 1993 and has served as President since 2000. Duncan-Williams, Inc. is an investment-banking firm, employing more than 170 employees, with branches in Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Jackson, MS. Since its founding in 1969 as a municipal bond dealer, the Company has expanded in sales, finance and underwriting of all fixed income securities to the general public and financial institutions. It opened an Institutional Equities Department in 2008.

A Conversation With ... Duncan Williams

Mr. Williams was elected to serve on the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Board of Governors for a three-year term in 2007. He is a past member of the FINRA Small Firm Advisory Board, a past member of the NASD Small Firms Impact Task Force and the NASD Small Firm Hand-Off Program Working Group. He served on the NASD District Nominating Committee from 2002 to 2004. From 1999 to 2002, he served on the NASD District Business Conduct Committee and was the committee’s chairman in 2002. He was currently selected to serve a three-year term, beginning in 2011 on the National Adjudicatory Council (NAC) for FINRA. He is the past Chairman of The Leadership Academy in Memphis, a member of the Memphis Economic Club, on the board of Presbyterian Day School since 2008, and an Advisory Board Member of SunTrust Bank, and a past recipient of the Memphis Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40.”

Mr. Williams graduated from the University of Alabama in 1990 and is a member of the President’s Cabinet, Commerce Executive Society, and the Board of Visitors at the University of Alabama. Duncan Williams was featured in the September/October 2010 issue of MBQ, and Duncan-Williams Inc. is an underwriter the Greater Memphis Chamber's Soundtrack Project.
