Bridging the Gap

When it comes to recruiting and keeping talent in Memphis, there is not a better tool than the development of our green space and bike lanes. Shelby Farms, the Green Line, bike lanes throughout the city and county, all create a “green necklace” that connects all of our community.  Another project that we would like to see come to fruition is the Harahan Bridge Project.

Once completed, the Harahan Bridge will connect vibrant downtown Memphis, Tennessee to Arkansas.  Designed for bicycle and pedestrian traffic, a bikeway on the north side of the Harahan Bridge will present spectacular views of Memphis and the Mississippi River.

However, this project needs all of our help.  To secure $15 million in Federal Money (TIGER Grant), $1 million in private funds are a firm condition.  Over $750,000 has been raised thus far, with $250,000 still needed.  With a May 15th deadline quickly approaching, and after consulting with numerous business leaders and chamber members, we felt it was pertinent that we reach out to the Memphis business community and ask for your assistance in “Bridging the Gap.”

Please consider pledging to this project.  The Greater Memphis Chamber is pledging $1,000 and we encourage others to pledge as well.

Donations can be sent directly to the Community Foundation Fund:
"Harahan Bridge Trail Project Fund"  (Fund #2131)

Please notify me by email if you are able to participate so that we can keep track of our progress.  Again, the deadline for pledges is Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Thank you for your consideration on this community project.
