From the Top: Supplier Diversity Collaborative Part II

Last week I introduced the Supplier Diversity Collaborative plan to increase business receipts for Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs) in the Greater Memphis region. We all know the glaring numbers from the City/County disparity study – African American companies received only 0.84% of all business receipts in 2014. However, we were also dealing with very negative views from both the MWBE and corporate communities.

Earlier this year, the Supplier Diversity Collaborative presented its plan to create economic growth for all by increasing receipts for minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs). The plan breaks down into several recommendations, focusing on developing relationships business-to-government (B2G), business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-church (B2C).

TDOT Seeks $180 Million Grant to Move Lamar Avenue Projects Forward

Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer joined state and local officials in Memphis on Tuesday, June 21, to announce TDOT’s application for $180 million in federal grant funds to help move the Lamar Avenue (US 78/SR 4) widening projects forward. The FASTLANE grant program is a new federal program to fund critical freight and highway projects across the country. TDOT is applying for $180 million of the $800 million set aside for fiscal year 2016.

Introducing our 2016 International Business Intern: Bo Wang

This summer the Greater Memphis Chamber is fortunate to have two impressive interns working on major projects in our International Business and Communications departments. Today, we would like to introduce to you Bo Wang, from Xi'an city, Shaanxi province, China. Bo is currently a graduate student in the MBA program at Arkansas State University. He will be working with Ernest Strickland, Vice President of International and Business Partnerships, this summer. Bo tells us more about himself and the projects he will be working on below.
