We're getting the word out. MEMSHOP is accepting pre-applications. In order to kick-off this fall, the pre-application deadline is December 15th.

What is MEMShop, you ask?

What is MEMShop?
MEMShop is a unique approach to revitalizing our communities using pop-up shops as retail incubators. MEMShop lowers the barriers for business startups, existing businesses seeking to test a location, and those simply wanting to test a concept through use of temporary, short-term space for operation of your business.  MEMShop provides businesses with six months of free or reduced rent.

What additional support do MEMShop’s receive?
In addition to free or reduced rent, MEMShop’s might receive:
• Small grants for tenant/landlord improvements to space
• Workshops in media, marketing and public relations
• One-on-one business consulting
• Help with marketing, permitting and start-up

What is the process for MEMSHOP?
The first step is simple.  Please just fill out a pre-application at  If your pre-application is selected, we will walk you through the full selection process.

Who can apply?
Anyone can apply—new businesses, existing businesses, start-ups, artists, etc.  This exciting opportunity is available for anyone interested in opening in South Memphis.  Neighborhood residents are especially encouraged to apply.

What is the deadline?
Pre-applications ( must be received by December 15th.

What are the program requirements?
Any interested retailer is encouraged to apply.  Business owners will:
• Sign a 3-6 month lease with the property owner;
• Provide general liability insurance and utilities;
• Submit monthly reporting requirements such as income and expense information, sales tax reporting, and job creation information;
• Comply with MEMShop storefront façade and cleanliness requirements;
• Complete certain marketing materials tasks and activities to drive foot traffic; and
• Participation in business support services, as needed.
