Encourages Mid-Southerners to Show “LUV” for Southwest Airlines in the Memphis Market

Memphis, Tenn. — With the announcement of Southwest Airlines arriving in the Memphis market, the Greater Memphis Chamber is launching #MEMLUV: Rewards4Rewards Campaign. The Chamber, along with the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Mid-South Air Service Task Force, have set a goal to sign-up at least 50,000 new Southwest Rapid Rewards® members (the airline’s frequent flyer program) by November 30, 2013.  This grassroots initiative will “reward” six locals with two round-trip tickets on Southwest at the end of the campaign in November.  #MEMLUV is open to residents of the Mid-South and those 18 and older are encouraged to participate.

“We want Southwest Airlines to know, even before their planes land in the market, that Memphis and the Mid-South, are ready to fly with them,” said John W. Moore, President and CEO, Greater Memphis Chamber.  “By establishing this base of supporters, Southwest will know our commitment level to support them is solid. Even more importantly, it will allow Mid-Southerners to have the opportunity to see the impact that this airline will have on the region.”

“Our hope is that everyone will encourage friends and family to participate and that employers will encourage their employees as well. The airline is taking a chance on Memphis and we want them to know it was the right decision,” said Moore.  “Even if you already have a Rapid Rewards® card, you can still enter for a chance to win the tickets and show your support.”

The Chamber will kick-off the campaign today, which coincides with Southwest Airlines 42nd birthday, by delivering heart-shaped sweets to corporate clients encouraging them to spread the #MEMLUV with their employees.  Southwest peanuts will be making appearances at Chamber events, too.  In addition, a social media campaign will launch immediately, with video, print and electronic to follow.  The winners for the #MEMLUV: Rewards4Rewards will be announced at the Chamber’s Annual Chairman’s Luncheon in December.
