Release date: 6/1/2009

With more than 5,000 unique visitors from over forty countries or territories per month, the Greater Memphis Chamber’s newly designed website – -  serves as the front-door to Memphis businesses, Chamber members and the entire greater Memphis community.

“We wanted a site that stayed true to our mission of economic, community and member development,” said John Moore, president and chief executive officer for the Chamber. “ As an inclusive organization, we wanted to embrace and showcase all that we have to offer as a community.”

The Greater Memphis Chamber is the lead economic development agency for Memphis/Shelby County, and is a private, non-profit, membership-driven organization comprised of 2,300 business enterprises, civic organizations, educational institutions and individuals.

Conceptualized in-house, with back-end web application development by Mellon Consulting Group, LLC and design assistance from Bradley Wilkerson, the site was created with ease of navigation in mind. The multi-faceted site’s new design allows users to quickly find the information they are seeking. Whether it is a national site selector looking for Memphis facts and figures or a Chamber member looking for an upcoming event - or even an international visitor wanting more information about visiting the city - the site promotes all that Memphis has to offer.

“Visitors to our site range from individuals considering Memphis as a place to relocate to national site selection consultants and everything in-between,” said Kim Kent, Director of Research for the Chamber. “The challenge was to develop a site with this variety of visitors in mind – channeling them to answers and relevant content within a couple of clicks.”

Features of the site include:

  • Sites & Building search feature – powered by Xceligent, Inc., a nationwide provider of property and listing information for the commercial real estate industry – that allows site selection consultants and relocating businesses to conduct a preliminary search of available commercial and industrial property in Memphis and Shelby County.
  • Community Pages – Pages that explore what makes Memphis a great community to live, work and play.
  • Member Pages – Include, the Chamber’s calendar of events, a complete directory of member companies as well as pages that offer key member services and resources.
  • M!Power Memphis Page - a marketing campaign designed to empower the citizens of the area to become positive, informed spokespersons for the entire community. The site enables visitors to download “community M’s” and the Memphis-centric “bragging rights.”

“Our new website can take advantage of valuable opportunities, as many site consultants will first scan community web pages in an effort to learn more about prospective relocation sites, workforce strengths and other quality of life opportunities for their company clients,” said Brooke Tweddell, Vice President of Marketing, Research and Communications for the Chamber.  “By providing valuable business and community data, in an easy-to-navigate format, our website can now  serve as a valuable tool in this first phase of vetting prospective communities to start or grow a business .”

The Greater Memphis Chamber is spearheading internal and external marketing for the Memphis Economic Development Plan (MemphisED). MemphisED is an aggressive, five-year economic development plan for the area that targets net new job growth and an increase in per capita income.
