Big Company Ideas for Small Company Costs

Christina Meek recently sat down with Abhay Bhargava, the founder of Certified Finance & IT Solutions, PLLC, a Chamber member since 2009, to discuss what his business offers and Abhay’s favorite things about Memphis.

How long have you been in business?
Started in August of 2005 (6 years)

What is your background in Accounting/IT?
I received a CPA, MBA and Law degree in India and then I came to the United States and studied at Adelphi University in Long Island, NY. There I received my MBA and CPA.

I gained experience in companies like Sandusky Cabinets in Millington, Tenn., when I served as the CFO where I traveled a lot. Later I worked for Methodist Healthcare Corporate Office with the finance and IT offices.

What kind of solutions does your company offer?
We help with all kinds of accounting: income, balance sheets, payroll, tax returns, etc. It’s CPA-like, but online accounting, no duplicate work so it’s more efficient. Initially clients want to sit with me to see where they are making money, losing money and get my advice.

My business is for small-medium size businesses who can’t afford a CFO; companies who use Quickbooks or similar programs. They need to have somebody who understands IT, who can do upgrades to their software, do patches, but they don’t have the resources for this. We host data accounting on our server and use Mas200 software (middle market).

When small businesses use us, we help right away and at any time of day or night.

How does the payment structure work?
Clients pay monthly which eliminates headaches for them.
Your financial health is our financial health. We do what the typical CPA does but since we host their database on our server we become their IT person without any extra cost to them.

What do you like about being a Chamber member?
The connections I’ve made at the networking events have been a great way to get the word out about my business. After one of the Small Business Council mixers, I made a lot of connections with other businesses.
What chamber benefits have you taken advantage of?
I had a site visit by the Existing Business Team where Ernest Strickland and Kelvin Kolheim (Chamber staff members) spent 2-3 hours with me talking about my work.
