Young Memphis Spotlight: Lisa Middlebrook

If you haven't yet heard about some of these young leaders, you will soon enough.

These 10 powerhouses – the Young Memphians Class of 2013 -- are making a mark, driven by passion for their work and a desire to raise the stakes for Memphis. As a result, these influential professionals are making the best kind of difference in a town that increasingly looks for innovation and energy.

Memphis requires the mix of entrepreneurship, dedication and spunk found in these 10 dynamos. Some are homegrown, some out-of-towners. They’re involved in the community outside their work, and they have ideas on how to make Memphis a better all-around place.

Training & Development Coordinator at Electrolux Major Appliances

When Electrolux looks to the future, it sees Lisa. As the high-tech plant ramps up operations over the next few years and employment grows to a projected 1200, Lisa will be key to doing the training for those future employees.

"The hot job for me is training," she says without equivocation. "It's my passion and what I love." She was born in Memphis and has been here her whole life except for a stint at Austin Peay State University and in Houston, Texas.

But she was never going to be away for long. "It's family first and foremost," she says. And it fits in her live/work/play concept and what she views as a key reason for remaining connected to the Memphis community. "The cost of living is good, there are strong entertainment districts and we have more businesses and industry coming in." And as any good trainer does, Lisa wants to see the city get even better in all those areas: Bring in more businesses so there will be more opportunities for young people coming out of school, and boost the entertainment areas. "Let's up the ante on all of those aspects," Lisa says.
