Tim Tebow Touches Down in Memphis

One of our Chamber members, Agape Child & Family Services, is hosting their 15th annual Heartlight event where they bring in a special guest speaker. This year, they’re bringing Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow as their main speaker. The Chamber’s Christina Meek sat down with Agape to find out more about their special event.

Why is Agape bringing Tim Tebow to Memphis?
We are hosting our 15th annual HeartLight event and we want to raise awareness and support for homeless women, orphaned children and vulnerable communities in the Mid-South.  Tim’s steadfast faith, character and philanthropic interests directly align with our mission.  Furthermore, Tim is a strong male role model and his life message carries the strength we need to engage more people in the region.

What is the connection Tim has with the mission of Agape?
Tim Tebow is a dedicated follower of Jesus and a strong male role model.  Tim also supports orphanages in the Philippines and in Florida.  Children and families in this region need to hear the message Tim will share.  His life and his philanthropic interests directly connect with Agape's mission of faith and serving others.

What are the benefits that Agape and your partners provide for our region?
Agape works with over 100 local corporations, non-profits, and groups to provide wrap-
around care to the clients we serve.  This complete support of homeless women, fatherless
children and residents in under-resourced communities is our main provision for clients in our
region.

Agape is a non-profit Christian organization focused on helping under-resourced children and families in Memphis.

Services overview
  • Uniting children with loving families through our Adoption and Foster Care Program.
  • Investing in homeless women and children through our Families in Transition program.
  • Strengthening communities with intentional relationships through our Powerlines Community Network.
  • Linking servants to service through our Volunteer program.

What can people look forward to at your event?
HeartLight with Tim Tebow will be an evening filled with entertainment and information.
Attendees will experience moving stories and presentations culminating with Tim Tebow.
Tim will share his life experiences and stories of faith.  He will also hold a Q&A session to
field questions from the interested community.

Is there anything that people are often surprised to learn about that Agape does or  provides?
Most people are surprised at the scope of the services Agape provides, as well as the broad
population we serve.  We have provided more than 1,300 children with permanent, loving
homes through our Adoption and Foster care services.  We currently have 50 women and their
children living in Families in Transition housing, who would otherwise be homeless.  We also serve seven apartment complexes in three communities (Whitehaven, Raleigh/Frayser and Hickory Hill) through our Powerlines Community Network.

Another little-known fact about Agape is the size of our Volunteer Network.  We currently have an active network of 1,300 volunteers who serve the community annually.  We need even more volunteers now, as our services and client base expands.  We have opportunities for volunteering at every level; from an hour a month up to many hours each week.

Anything else?
It is important to mention that Agape is a non-profit, Christian-based ministry.  We have been in Memphis for 43 years and serve 10,000 families annually.  While we have broadened our scope of service over the years, our mission has always remained consistent: to support and help women and children find permanent, loving homes.
