M-Spot: Cutting The Wires

The M-Spot, a free wi-fi area in downtown Memphis, officially launched on May 24, a breezy warm spring day. The crowd enjoyed music by guitarist Bill Walsh and the rousing entertainment of Air Grizz, one of the Memphis Grizzlies mascots. A member of the Claw Crew was on hand giving out Grizzlies flags and yellow headbands. Also in attendance were Miss Shelby County, Jill Brooks, and Miss Tennessee Teen Princess, Jocelyn Jordan.

The M-Spot, located on the north side of the Falls Building at 22 North Front Street, boasts tables and chairs and is a covered patio area, making it useable even when raining.

John Moore, president and CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber, kicked off the "wire cutting" event by welcoming everyone and stating why it was so important to have the M-Spot: green spaces in Memphis are vital. He also explained that up to 100 devices can use the free wi-fi at one time.

Paul Morris, president and CEO of the Center City Commission, thanked the Chamber for leading this initiative, and said that he wants the CCC to follow the Chamber’s example and provide more green spaces downtown. Morris said initiatives like the M-Spot help persuade people to live downtown.

With the M-Spot officially launched, I was able to enjoy writing this blog outside on a beautiful morning in downtown Memphis!

Stay tuned for other Memphis bloggers who will be blogging about or from the M-Spot:
