10 to Watch: MC Ionic Solutions US

The following is a feature in our Memphis Crossroads 10 to Watch Issue. To view the entire list of 10 to Watch Companies, click here.

MC Ionic Solutions US (MCIS US) will power up this year, building new business with new products to help scale up production at its Memphis facility.

The company is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical and was established in Memphis in 2010. It makes electrolyte, a chemical solution for lithium ion batteries.

MCIS makes these batteries for electric vehicles. Company spokesman Artie Kurihara said sales of these have risen steadily and called 2014 “a significant year” for his industry.

“It is clear that there is a trend to move toward more environmentally friendly products and (lithium ion batteries) are one of the key components in realizing this movement,” Kurihara said.

MCIS US will work with more products this year, a move that is hoped to bring in more business and help crank up production.

“I'd like to make 2015 the year we build a foundation for an operation with a second shift in 2016,” Kurihara said.
