Accelerator Spotlight: Sky High

This week we’re highlighting Sky High, an accelerator dedicated to the unique needs of social impact tech startups, combining lean startup methodology with an intense social innovation curriculum. Memphis is ground zero for disruptive startups – focus areas include education, poverty, crime, health care and urban innovation – and Sky High participants are given access to the tools, mentors, and funding to build platforms for meaningful change in the city. Invading Nashville with Memphis Soul

Memphis invaded Nashville in February with an event that showcased our city’s strengths in business, of course, but also our good-time side with plenty of great Memphis music and food.
The Greater Memphis Chamber and the Memphis Convention and Visitor’s Bureau helped bring Memphis soul and flavor to the Tennessee Capitol with an event called #MEM2NASH.
“Our purpose is simple,” said Greater Memphis Chamber President & CEO, Phil Trenary. “We want to represent all of Memphis with a unified voice and show Memphis businesses and tourist attractions to all Tennessee state legislators.”

Accelerator Spotlight: EPIcenter Logistics Innovation Accelerator

This week we’re highlighting the EPIcenter Logistics Innovation Accelerator, created to help startups bring innovative logistics products and technologies to market. Now in its second year, the program is sponsored by FedEx and leverages the region’s extraordinary logistics infrastructure and expertise, making it the ideal place to launch new logistics- and transportation-based innovations.

Leaving Memphis Better Than He Found It

Jason Hood learned as a Boy Scout to always leave a campsite better than he found it. He still applies that principle to his life. He uses it as a corporate attorney, in leadership at the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle and as a Boy Scouts of America volunteer. “One of the things I really think about is potential,” said Hood in his third-floor East Memphis office at Sedgwick, Inc., one of the city’s largest private employers. “I want to strive to improve, to realize potential. I would like to leave my workplace better than I found it. I would like to leave my community better than I found it.”

Accelerator Spotlight: Upstart

This week we’re highlighting Upstart, one of the first accelerators dedicated to women-led tech startups and according to Forbes one of the top ten technology startup accelerators for women-led businesses in the world. With renowned partners including The JumpFund, Springboard Enterprises, and The Academy for Women's Empowerment (AWE), Upstart is specifically designed to equip female founders with the skills and confidence to level the entrepreneurial playing field.  At Upstart they know that success isn’t gender-specific and as a result opportunity shouldn't be either.
