With city and county on board, Electrolux deal is a 'go'

UPDATE: We are pleased to be working with Electrolux as they consolidate their North American cooking manufacturing in Memphis. Anyone seeking employment or business opportunities with Electrolux can email general inquiries to Information on specific vendor opportunities with Electrolux will be presented to our members as soon as it is made available.

The Shelby County Commission has approved a $22 million bond issue integral to the deal that will create an Electrolux Appliances manufacturing facility in Memphis.

The 11 to 1 vote, which occurred Monday, Jan. 24, was the final of three major approvals needed by month's end for the project to move ahead on a construction schedule determined by Electrolux.  The Industrial Development Board and the Memphis City Council gave their approval to the deal earlier in January.

“This is a great day in the economic history of Memphis," said Mark Herbison, Vice President of Economic Development for the Greater Memphis Chamber. "City and county officials worked together to capitalize on a major opportunity that will result in more jobs created for the people of our city. Going forward, executives can have renewed confidence in Memphis. Together, we have proved that we will seize on the right opportunities to grow our economy and make Memphis stronger.”

Electrolux announced in December that they would be moving their cooking manufacturing operations to Memphis.

When the project is complete, Electrolux will occupy a $195 million LEED-certified facility that will include manufacturing and office facilities. Electrolux has committed to creating 1,240 jobs for their manufacturing facility that will be located in Pidgeon Industrial Park.

In addition, it is expected that over 2,250 supplier jobs will be created either onsite or in very close proximity of the new Electrolux facility.

The State of Tennessee has committed over $100 million in bringing the project to Memphis/Shelby County.
