Board of Advisor Spotlight: Reuben Brunson, RocketFuel

The following is a feature from the previous issue of Memphis Crossroads MagazineClick here to view the full issue.

In each issue of Memphis Crossroads, we highlight a Board of Advisor level member, showcasing their important role in the Chamber as well as the business community. Reuben Brunson, CEO and Co-Founder of RocketFuel, shares why his company is part of the Chamber as well as some benefits of doing business in Memphis.

Why did you join the Chamber?

The Chamber is like a high-octane voice for our city. It serves as negotiator, advocate and cheerleader for both the Memphis business community and the Memphis community at large. Sometimes the Chamber serves as the messenger as well, and we all know how that can turn out. (Think Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "Message for you, sir.") As the Chamber has stepped up its game to have a broader impact on our city's future, it has had to face some hard viewpoints and decisions, often divisive. While we can't always agree on the tough choices that need to be made, the Chamber always has the best interest of Memphis and its future in its heart. Sometimes you take an arrow in the heart for it. We all want Memphis to win. Worth it.

The Chamber is like networking with a jet pack, you can reach higher places. As longtime members, the Chamber has provided RocketFuel several opportunities to meet and greet with many fellow business people in the Memphis community. Moving up to the Board of Advisors has boosted that opportunity to connect with likeminded businesses on a higher level. Contrary to popular belief, we were not granted sabers of light, or telekinetic powers (Maybe that happens at the Chairman's Circle?). Collectively though, we are working to have a greater impact in Memphis, both in business growth and a better quality of life for all in our city.

What are the benefits of doing business in Memphis?

Elvis used to live here, so it must be good, right? Turns out, Elvis was right. As a native to the city, it's been amazing watching the city start to boom again. This is particularly true in Downtown in the last five years, where I work and live. And there is so much more to do now here in the local scene: Overton Square (again!), live music at the Levitt Shell, the Grizzlies, farmer markets, great parks. This city has so much to offer. I hear that we even have a giant pyramid.

Sure, there is still a lot of progress to be made. We are finally lifting off in the right direction, and there are more people aboard this rocket of positivity than ever.
