Board of Advisor Spotlight: David Dufour, Crew Training International

The following is a feature from the previous issue of Memphis Crossroads MagazineClick here to view the full issue.

In each Memphis Crossroads Magazine, we highlight a Board of Advisor level member, showcasing their important role in the Chamber as well as the business community. David Dufour, Vice President of Operations for Crew Training International, shares why his company is part of the Chamber as well as some benefits of doing business in Memphis.

Why did you join the Chamber?
Crew Training International (CTI) is a long-time member of the Greater Memphis Chamber and recently upgraded to the Board of Advisors level largely because CTI and the Chamber share a complementary focus on economic and workforce development.  Economically, CTI has achieved “large business” status as a government contractor and has begun diversifying into commercial markets. As a result of this expansion, we are bringing up to seventy jobs into the Memphis area through our commercial flight school, CTI Professional Flight Training. Additionally, our new flight school has led to partnerships with local academic institutions and other businesses that will contribute directly to developing aviation and human factors skills in the local workforce. All in all, CTI and the Chamber are both working toward a stronger Memphis economy with a highly skilled workforce.

What are the benefits of doing business in Memphis?
Even though Memphis is a big city, the internal Memphis business community is exceptionally well-connected. A connection with one Memphis business gives you an immediate, de facto connection with several others. Couple this with the fact that CTI and many Memphis businesses are international, and you can develop new opportunities quickly across the globe. A specific benefit for CTI is the wide variety of businesses that can and do benefit from CTI’s core competency:  Professional Training. CTI’s 20+ year history of training the “best of the best” in the U.S. Armed Forces is becoming increasingly well-known through the Memphis business community, and we expect to see more growth in our services in the Memphis area.
