Q&A with Member Bring It Food Hub

Member Bring It Food Hub is a non-profit local foods distributor in Memphis. Their mission is to promote community development in Memphis and the Mid-South by increasing access to healthy, affordable local foods and strengthening farmer livelihoods. They work closely with regional farmers who follow sustainable production practices and conserve natural resources and biodiversity.
Bring It Food Hub recently underwent a rebranding and added new products to their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscription. Managers Alex and Lori Greene answer a few questions below on the what, how and why of their CSA.
1. What kind of products can you receive in a seasonal subscription?

A sample subscription bag from last summer included basil, bulb onions, kale roots, heirloom lettuce, green tomatoes, peaches, carrots, broccoli and chard, but expect to see a good variety of fruits in vegetables each week. You can also add on a dozen of eggs or two! And starting this year, Bring It Food Hub is partnering with local vendors to bring you weekly add-on shares of locally grown and sourced bread, eggs, cheese and fresh-cut flowers.
2. Where can I pick up my subscription?
You can click here to view a full list of public delivery sites, but if none of them work, you can get together with five friends or coworkers to create a custom delivery site. Just click here and follow the steps to creating your very own drop-off location.
3. Can you tell me a little about your Pay It Forward Program?
In partnership with neighborhood level community organizations in Memphis, we deliver a weekly bounty of “fresh from the farm” fruit and vegetables to food-insecure homes. For only $20, a family receives one week’s worth of healthy, fresh produce. Repeated research demonstrates strong links between limited access to healthy and fresh foods and health risks in the home, and limited access in many Memphis neighborhoods is all too real. By sponsoring a Pay It Forward subscription, you help create better access that leads to healthier homes.
4. How does a CSA like this one positively impact Memphis?
By supporting CSAs like Bring It Food Hub, you increase access to healthy, affordable local foods and strengthen farmer livelihoods.
