Memphis International Airport has topped the operating performance list in North America for the second consecutive month, according to a report by FlightStats.
More than 84 percent of the flights departing from Memphis did so on time in January, topping Houston’s airport, which ranked second at 82 percent for the month.
Memphis also ranked best in the nation for on-time departures in December.
"We really do have the finest-run airport in the world," said John Moore, the Greater Memphis Chamber president and CEO. "I can say that because I've experienced it firsthand.” (Moore was a Northwest Airlines executive before joining the Chamber.)
Southern airports typically dominate the list of top performers due to the region’s comparably favorable weather conditions. But the South’s unusually severe winter weather helped push many other airports in the region to the bottom of January’s list.
The Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami airports tied for last in the report, with on-time performance of 57 and 52 percent, respectively.
