Your Chamber At Work
From 2007-2011, the Greater Memphis Chamber facilitated projects that brought 16,355 new jobs to Memphis and $3.78 Billion in New Capital Investment. Most of these projects were facilitated underneath the Memphis Economic Development Plan (MemphisED), the economic development component of a broader economic growth initiative for Memphis and Shelby County called Memphis Fast Forward.
MemphisED was comprised of 16 different agencies and led by the Greater Memphis Chamber. The plan was designed to ensure that both Memphis and Shelby County had a strong and diverse economy, fostered innovation and entrepreneurship, and advanced the region’s global leadership in the bioscience, music and film, and logistics industries.
Over the last five years, through the hard work of the Greater Memphis Chamber's Economic Development team, the Chamber – alone – generated 90% of the new capital investment. In January of 2012, City of Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Jr., Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr., and Greater Memphis Chamber President and CEO John Moore announced the celebration of a $1 Billion investment year for Memphis and Shelby County by private businesses.
